Mother's Day in Liverpool city centre came to a close with an impromptu visit to the non-residents' bar of the plush new Hard Day's Night hotel.
The ideal speck to buy me mum a Bailey's, this was my first time inside the swankiest hotel Liverpool has seen for years.
It's very civilised, and the work and craftsmanship that has gone into creating the establishment is evident, from the spirits stored in tasteful glass cabinets, to the loos (always a good indicator of venue quality), the comfy seating, Fab Four artwork and pleasant atmosphere.
We certainly didn't feel like the proletariat gatecrashing a swanky bash, and songs from every corner of the group's extremely busy eight-year recording period, provided an unobtrusive backing track to the couple of rounds we enjoyed in there.
Worth a visit. The staff know everyone's going to come in for a nose, and you get a very friendly welcome, from the commisionaire, to the waitress, to the barman.
