As one of the very first Spare Times entries suggests, I've always had a soft spot for the Eurovision Song Contest.
And when I say 'soft spot', I don't mean I think of it as a pile of musical syrup which we should all point at and laugh every year. I genuinely believe there are some bona fide decent pop tunes among the entries.
Don't worry. I know I'm mostly alone in that notion.
Which is why myself, and some like-minded chums, headed off to the Jurys Inn in Birmingham last weekend for a whole day of Eurovision-i-ness.
The annual OGAE (it stands for something in French about liking Eurovision) Convention is an unusual affair. Although there are moments which are truly toe-curling (ie, guest speakers who placed in the low teens at the Contest almost 10 years ago being fawned over in worrying fashion), it was, on the whole, a fun-filled day of high-campery, a disco of pop songs with more melodies than you can shake Scooch at, and generally the sort of smashing fun most cool kids would run a mile from.
And I even managed to win the quiz. I never thought that knowing which Bond theme Lulu sang would prove to be so useful.
